goldensword:asymptotic_leveling_mechanism
the asymptotic leveling system ensures that even at high levels, there always remains a small chance of failure. Additionally, at low levels, there is always a chance of success.
In the Goldensword system, this is accomplished in two ways:
- by the consistent use of Arthur Marutt's logarithmic “Hit Table” which was used for combat in his Verterre system.
- by the use of logarithmic “level up” XP costs to reduce the speed at which high level characters continue to level up
