Mbala
Mbala is a haunting and mysterious location in Tomb of Annihilation. Once a thriving Chultan settlement, it now lies in ruins atop a sheer plateau northwest of the Aldani Basin. The town was devastated by the green hag Nanny Pu'pu, who slaughtered its inhabitants and now resides there as its sole sentient resident. Here are some cool things you can do with Mbala in your campaign:
- The Climb: Reaching Mbala is an adventure in itself. The narrow, winding path up the plateau is treacherous, and the journey could be spiced up with encounters like flying monkeys or environmental hazards.
- Ghostly Echoes: The spirits of Mbala's former residents could linger, offering clues about the town's tragic past or warnings about Nanny Pu'pu. These restless souls might aid or hinder the party, depending on how they approach them.
- Nanny Pu'pu's Schemes: The hag is a master manipulator and necromancer. She might offer the party cryptic knowledge or aid in exchange for dangerous favors, but her true motives are always sinister. Her hut, made from the ribcage of a massive beast, is a creepy centerpiece.
- Ties to the Death Curse: Nanny Pu'pu could have knowledge of the Death Curse or even a connection to Acererak. Perhaps she seeks to exploit the curse for her own gain, or she might know secrets about the Atropol.
- Hidden Treasures: Nanny Pu'pu is known to hoard treasures, including adamantine ingots and magical items. The party might uncover these if they outwit or defeat her.
