the Abbot of Carney
The Abbot is an appointed lifetime position of high honor. The current Abbot has been in place for 37 years, through the rule of 4 Jarls.
The influence of the Abbot is typically more or less equal to the other Alders in general, however, the current Abbot has grown greatly in influence, due to his unusual breadth of knowledge and interests. His wisdom is unmatched in history, economics, and analytics.
Over the past decade or so, the Abbot has encouraged research into many lost areas of knowledge, beginning to create a culture of curiosity and investigation rather than the narrow superstitious mindset all too characteristic of many previous councilors. Such Arts as herbology, tattoo, battledance, and even magic are now becoming more generally accepted.
The Abbot can heal characters to full HP and will do so in exchange for an “offering” whose value is dependent upon renown.

The end of Denier begins the long winter period of solitude and fasting. Some see this as a continuation of Denier, though it is officially Auril which last for approximately five months.
GM eyes only
The Abbot has knowledge of the ancient city of glass, and possesses some old books on the subject, mainly historical records and some cultural perspectives. He is one of a few people who have actually used the old access tunnels between the abbey and the castle. He is willing and able to fund exploratory ventures into the old city for cultural purposes, but this requires renown. see DMG22
