This medieval fantasy campaign takes place in Connaught County, featuring the county seat at Connaught Castle and the attached walled city of Prince Crossing.

The county's population is almost entirely human, with a scant smattering of immigrated dwarves and wood elves and a small settlement of half-orcs at landsdowne farm.

Power in Connaught and the surrounding counties is generally economical. Wealthy clans with stakes in business appoint their own Alders to influence the decisions of the Jarl of Connaught, who seeks their opinions in most matters of the community. Men and women are regarded equal and either can act as Alder or clan Chieftain. This is determined within each house, some holding to ancient traditions, some to pragmatic concerns. In fact, the terms “Alder” and “Jarl” are gender neutral. The current political structure has remained stable for several hundred years, since the wars of the 500 kings and the signing of the federated counties concord. For more details please see governance in the 7 counties.

There is no official religion in most of the counties. The vast majority of citizens believe in the creator god but this belief has not evolved into an organization. However, each county maintains a prophet or spiritual advisor. One such, the Abbot of Carney is very influential, as his abilities as prophet of the One Creator give him insights and unique perspectives through a combination of divine revelation and arcane principles.
