In the Goldensword system, this is accomplished in two ways:

  1. by the consistent use of Arthur Marutt's logarithmic “Hit Table” which was used for combat in his Verterre system.
  2. by the use of logarithmic “level up” XP costs to reduce the speed at which high level characters continue to level up
