===== GoldenSword Beta Testing ===== Welcome to the beta testing team! We are super glad to have you help test the system. Please sign up to the beta team email list, so we can keep you posted on what to test next etc. http://goldensword.dimensionfold.com/betasignup.html At the moment we are focusing on the Character Creation phase. One of the primary goals for GoldenSword is that everything be as simple as possible. Character Creation is optimized to be relatively quick and easy, even for a 1st time RPG player, with a few simple rules and not a lot of having to spend a lot of time looking a bunch of stuff up. === Character Creation === To create a character: - distribute 60 attribute points among the following attributes: * Strength * Constitution * Agility * Charisma * Perception * Reason * Knowledge * Magery - buy some basic gear. $100 gets you the bare essentials: leather armour, a small wooden shield, and a nice hunting knife. The GM decides how much money you can start with, typically between $100 to $200. - pick a few skills at default level, and invest initial XP into a few skills upgrades or some magic spells. The GM decides how much initial XP you get, typically between 20 to 50 XP. Check out this Character Creation Example to see how it works, then come back here and try it yourself. ---- === Attributes === The attributes directly determine secondary characteristics such as Hit Points & Magic Points, and also affect Skill levels. The character sheet attribute section looks like this: === Weapons & Armour === It is highly recommended that the character "purchase" armour and a weapon as part of the character creation phase. Ask your GM how much money your character can start with to spend on supplies. As a worst case scenario, grab an improvised weapon such as a club or a hunting knife. === Skills === You also should give your character a few Skills to start out with. Pick a few skills that you want. You start at the default level listed for that skill. During the character creation phase you also get some inital XP to spend on skill upgrades. Ask your GM how much Initial XP he allows. Typically it will range between 20 and 50. This initial XP can be spent on upgrading Skills and/or learning (and possibly upgrading) a few Spells.
